The Violence Virus

Violence is like a virus. Those who come in contact with it can become infected. The infected then spread the infection.  Those uninfected will fear those infected. Fear creates more opportunity for infection. And how do we respond? With more violence.

The Gun

It lay there, on the ground unhidden.
It laid there for everyone to see.
The guns wooden grip was chipped and abraded.
The metal on the inside curve of the trigger was lighter in color as the blueing was warn.
It laid there, loaded, blamed and ugly.
It laid there all day, threatening.
A week went by, it waited.
Another week..... a month went by and it waited.
Someone should do something!
It laid there ready, ready and waiting.
It rained, and it waited.
It froze, and it waited.
A year went by and it waited.
It did not care that it waited.
It had no motive, no philosophy.
It had no emotion, no dreams, no regrets.
It waited forever.
It had to wait.
It could do nothing on its own.

Humans have never lived in safer times

There are more people alive today living in peace than in all our history.  Yet many are convinced that they should fear.  And now, today, many are convinced that we should fear each other.

Thoughtful ideas vs Thoughtless intimidation.

Many times I've seen human beings influenced by thoughtful circumstance.  Yet our social systems are devised to use thoughtless intimidation.  How has a society based on the idea of freedom been subverted into a police state?  I believe it is because of how we choose our leaders.  And it is how we have been conditioned to believe we need leaders.  If I show you a new and better way you will naturally accept this knowledge. To share is not to lead.  If I demand there is a critical need, and forecast a terrible future if I am not heeded, what form of leadership is this?

A jurist framed a test of freedom of speech.  This freedom does not condone the false claim of catastrophe to the group.  Yet isn't this exactly done day after day by the few that wish to control the many?   FIRE they scream!  ISIS they scream,  VIRUS they scream.

You are safe.  Be cautious, not fearful.

You've Been Here Before, Because...

You are walking in circles, in circles, in circles, but if you
get on your knees you can crawl in a straight line.  So crawl
in a straight line,  find a new place to circle.
It's good to have options.

Blood Roses Night

There are a few compositions that I feel the closest to.  This is one of them. Something about flowers (roses) that have finished with their blooms. The color and texture gets so complicated and interesting. I hope you like it too.

Good Mother Cat, Mexico

While in Mexico I found this Mother Cat protecting her kittens behind a food stand. I got her some food and water and as I approached she herded her young into a narrow place behind the building. She watched me carefully as I sat the food down and did not come out until I backed far away.  She inspected my offerings and with a silent command called her kittens out. She sat patiently watching me while her kittens fed. She didn't eat anything herself. What a hard life this girl has had. I wish I could have done more.

Candy Factory

Maya

Maya was our love, she was more interesting to me than most people. All the cats we have lived with have been very different. When she was young she was fearless. She loved to climb and would find the top of every tree and ladder. She would not just jump to capture a plaything, she would launch herself with no thought of the landing. And not so long ago she launched herself for the last time. I pray she landed well and that I will see her again.

Mabel's Dark Ocean

Mabel got this picture on a walk along the California Coast.  I love the ominus dark feel to the composition. I threw a few filters at it and got this lovely texture to the foam.  Enlarged, this piece pulls me into a deep dark mysterious place.
